CHALLENGE YOUR SELF THIS DAY TO BE JOYFUL

CHALLENGE YOUR SELF THIS DAY TO BE JOYFUL

Sing for joy, O heavens, and exult, O earth; break forth, O mountains, into singing! For the Lord has comforted his people and will have compassion on his afflicted. Isaiah 49:13

My question to you this day in offering up this challenge is very simple:  Is there anything too hard for God?  And if you said NO, my Challenge for you is:  “CHALLENGE YOURSELF THIS DAY TO BE JOYFUL.”  Now here is what you must do, “Take the very worst situation that you may face this day and look old Satan in the face, and say, “despite your efforts to turn me around, knock me down to the ground, still my peace and happiness, I will not succumb to your evil ways, I will face you down and rejoice in the joy that my God is providing me with.

Those of us who have learned to trust in God ought to exhibit a dramatically different, positive response to the difficult events of life.  Our attitude is to be one of genuine rejoicing.  This is not joyful anticipation for trials; instead, it is joy during trials.  The joy is based on confidence in the outcome of the trial.  It is the starting realization that trials represent the possibility of growth.

Rejoice and be Happy; BELIEVERS, it’s time to stop pretending to be happy.  It is time to put on your shouting shoes, get up out of your comfortable seats and rejoice in the goodness of the Lord.  Rejoicing goes beyond happiness.  Happiness centers on earthly circumstances and how well things are going here.  Joy centers on God and His presents in our experience.  Now listen careful to this very important message from Isaiah.  He says, “I will sing for joy in God, explode in praise from deep in my soul! He dressed me up in a suit of salvation; he outfitted me in a robe of righteousness, As a bridegroom who puts on a tuxedo and a bride a jeweled tiara. For as the earth bursts with spring wildflowers, and as a garden cascades with blossoms, So the Master, God, brings righteousness into full bloom and puts praise on display before the nations.” Isaiah 61:10-11 MSG

LISTENING TO GOD SPEAK

LISTENING TO GOD SPEAK

WHEN GOD SPEAKS IT’S TIME TO LISTEN, BECAUSE GOD IS GOD ALL BY HIMSELF

WRITTEN BY SHIRLEY RHODES

GOD WATCHES OVER US FROM HIGH ABOVE (PHOTO BY SHIRLEY RHODES)

GOD WATCHES OVER US FROM HIGH ABOVE (PHOTO BY SHIRLEY RHODES)

From high in the skies God looks around, from where he sits, he overlooks all he has shaped into being, watching everything we do. His eyes are watching over all His Children and all that He has created; he waits patiently and listens to those who call out to him for help. Immersing yourself, your thoughts into scripture and developing an appreciation for which God is, you will soon discover that you’re at your best when listening to God (the Holy Spirit) speak, and here is what it says, click on this video clip, watch and listen:

God says, “I don’t think the way you think; the way you work isn’t the way I work. The words that come out of my mouth will not come back to me empty-handed; they’ll do the work I sent them to do, they’ll complete the assignment I gave them” (Isaiah 55:6-11).  Are you listening to God Speak?

When you’re open and willing to change the way you think, you are open to receive insight into God. Paul penned it this way: Be not conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may demonstrate what is that  good, acceptable, and perfect will of God (Romans:12:2).

Quiet down before God, humble yourself to pray, keep nothing back and release everything you’re seeking to God, he will do whatever needs to be done.  Don’t burn out; keep yourselves fueled and aflame. Be alert servants of the Master, cheerfully expectant. Don’t quit in hard times; pray all the harder (11-12). Stay focused, stay centered, because without a doubt your blessings will come, remember God sees, hears and know every detail of our existence. Are you listening to him speaking?

Wait patiently for God, don’t allow your thoughts to wander or waver, open your heart in sincere reverence and faith. Know this, God is your Guardian, he guards you from every evil, he guards your very life. He guards you when you leave and when you return, he guards you now and always; he won’t let you stumble (Psalm 121:3-8).

When faced with life’s struggles, find a quiet place and put your confidence in God, open your ears and heart, you will find peace while listening to God speaking calm into your life, your situation. He knows our weary hearts far better than we do and he has promised to always be there, just call on him.

Kneel in worship and thank God for everything, for his love, faithfulness and his Holy Word that guides and direct each of us in so many ways, come boldly to the throne of Grace. Are you listening to God speaking?

GOD IS THE MASTER OF THE UNIVERSE

GOD IS THE MASTER OF THE UNIVERSE

WRITTEN BY SHIRLEY RHODES

BIG AND SMALL THE LIVING UNIVERSE (PHOTO BY SHIRLEY RHODES)

BIG AND SMALL THE LIVING UNIVERSE (PHOTO BY SHIRLEY RHODES)

Today we live in a world that demands a great portion of our energy just to survive and many find it difficult to adapt. Gloom (darkness) of sin and impending judgment lingers within our thoughts, we must never forget, God is the Master of the Universe.  In spite of the tiredness we may feel as the world attempts to drain the very peace from our existence (being) we must journey above the physical and material aspects of this worldly life, determined to joyfully live in the spiritual realm where we learn the meaning of true fellowship with a God who is in control, because he is the Master of the Universe.

When we are able to wrap our minds around this simple fact that He is, “THE MASTER OF THE UNIVERSE” (entirety, all there is) it will truly offer hope for your soul, he is the one you seek for all things, he will take you, mold you and give you rest; then enfold you in grace, love and mercy in such a way you become secure in who you are. In the Master you find acceptance, he will not deny you because of your past, he erases our pains so that we may be able to help others by sharing the same love he gives us.

Our Dependence on him moves us to a place in life where we come to realize that all our needs are met.  What’s important is the manner in which we submit in obedience to his will for “our life” accept him into your heart and cast all your cares upon him because he is the one person in your life that will be there no matter the obstacles you encounter. It’s your life, your journey given to you by the Master of the Universe, so grab hold and embrace yourself, for you are abundantly blessed; don’t allow anyone or anything to cause you to think different.

When feelings of emptiness threaten to drain our lives, we attempt to make peace within ourselves only to find that our own efforts tend to add to the emptiness we already feel.  God is the Master of the Universe,  the greatest source of peace for those who know and place their trust completely in him; for those who do not know him,  it’s impossible to know the  kind of peace he gives; because  he is our peace (Ephesians 2:14).

Many who claim to know such freedom often find themselves struggling with questions about what’s unknown as they strive to live worthy of Gods’ love for them. That is why faith is so important, it is the driving force that bridge the depths between the known and unknown; therefore,  your mind must be open and on the receiving end of the greatest gift of all, God’s Love.

Finally: Oh come, let us worship and bow down:

Let us kneel before the Lord our Maker,

For he is God, and we are the people of his pasture,

And the sheep of His hand: (Psalm 95:6-7).

REMOVE THE BALLS AND CHAINS AND BE LIFTED UP ON WINGS OF ASPIRATION

REMOVE THE BALLS AND CHAINS AND BE LIFTED UP ON WINGS OF ASPIRATION

CHILDREN OF GOD know in your hearts, that this day is the very first day of the rest of your life. Yesterday

BALL AND CHAINS KEEP YOU IN BONDAGE...

BALL AND CHAINS KEEP YOU IN BONDAGE…

is gone and tomorrow is not promised, Therefore, I encourage you, to take flight this day and the ball and chain that have been keeping you from receiving your blessings, remove them and lift off on the wings of Aspiration.  For this day, this moment is the only time that matters.  God is calling you, now listen for His voice and do not allow SATAN’S voice to drown out your blessings.  God is still in control. Let your mind take flight today and begin to see the beauty of all that God has to offer.  God is waiting for you right now, to begin your flight, “and fly high on the wings of Aspiration!”

When your mind becomes Calm and you find Peace within yourself, you will begin to discover by taking flight on the wings of aspiration, you can rises from

THE TIME TO BE LIFTED UP ON THE WINGS OF ASPIRATION IS NOW...

THE TIME TO BE LIFTED UP ON THE WINGS OF ASPIRATION IS NOW…

earth to heaven, from ignorance to knowledge, from the under darkness to the upper light.

Without it, you will simply remain a groveling animal, earthly, sensual, unenlightened, and uninspired. Aspiration is the longing for heavenly things, for righteousness, compassion, purity, love, as distinguished from desire, which is the longing for earthly things, for selfish possessions, personal dominance, low pleasures, and sensual gratifications.

For one to aspire, means that he or she is dissatisfied with their low estate, and is aiming at a higher condition.  It is a sure sign that you will be roused out of your lethargic sleep of animalist, and you have become conscious of nobler attainments and a fuller life. You are now flying high on the wings of aspiration.  Now think deeply on this, and begin to enjoy the very first day of your brand new life.  God gave it to you, now take advantage of your brand new wings and fulfill your dreams.

Truly, you are the master of your destination, where it leads you is the exact place that has been running around in your thoughts.  Your Mind is the Master over all things.  Keep it Calm, Keep it Clear, and learn to live each day as a brand new day in Peace, no matter what the situation around you may be, lift up your eyes towards the Heavenly things and be lifted up on THE WINGS OF ASPIRATION.  The choice is yours, what are you going to do?

I have ministered this message to you this day from a Spirit filled Mind that God has spoken His Thoughts of Wisdom and Knowledge into, and said, “My Servant, be obedient to the truth of My Word and share it with both the Believers as well as Non Believers.  My Word is like a two edge sword, it cuts both to the right as well as to the left.”  May God’s grace and mercy be yours to enjoy this day.

THE STORY OF THE BIRTH OF JOHN

THE STORY OF THE BIRTH OF JOHN

PASTOR DAVIS PLAYS THE ROLE OF THE PROPHET ZECHARIAH

When Elizabeth was full-term in her pregnancy, she bore a son. Her neighbors and relatives, seeing that God had overwhelmed her with mercy, celebrated with her.

On the eighth day, they came to circumcise the child and were calling him Zachariah after his father. But his mother intervened: “No. He is to be called John.”

“But,” they said, “no one in your family is named that.” They used sign language to ask Zachariah what he wanted him named.

Asking for a tablet, Zachariah wrote, “His name is to be John.” That took everyone by surprise. Surprise followed surprise—Zachariah’s mouth was now open, his tongue loose, and he was talking, praising God!

A deep, reverential fear settled over the neighborhood, and in all that Judean hill country people talked about nothing else. Everyone who heard about it took it to heart, wondering, “What will become of this child? Clearly, God has his hand in this.”

Then Zachariah was filled with the Holy Spirit and prophesied,

Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel;
he came and set his people free.
He set the power of salvation in the center of our lives,
and in the very house of David his servant,
Just as he promised long ago
through the preaching of his holy prophets:
Deliverance from our enemies
and every hateful hand;
Mercy to our fathers,
as he remembers to do what he said he’d do,
What he swore to our father Abraham
a clean rescue from the enemy camp,
So we can worship him without a care in the world,
made holy before him as long as we live.

And you, my child, “Prophet of the Highest,”
will go ahead of the Master to prepare his ways,
Present the offer of salvation to his people,
the forgiveness of their sins.
Through the heartfelt mercies of our God,
God’s Sunrise will break in upon us,
Shining on those in the darkness,
those sitting in the shadow of death,
Then showing us the way, one foot at a time,
down the path of peace.  Luke 1:57-79  The Message (MSG)

LIFE’S CONNECTION THROUGH CIRCUMSTANCES-CHANCES AND CHOICE

LIFE’S CONNECTION THROUGH CIRCUMSTANCES-CHANCES AND CHOICE

THE BLESSINGS OF GOD’S EARLY MORNING DEW (PHOTO BY SHIRLEY RHODES)

By Shirley Rhodes

Human nature is an important part of something special created by God himself.  Our “life’s connection through circumstances, chances and choice” challenges each of us at some point in this earthly existence to take chances and make a choice.  Our choices may not always be the right one, or the wrong one, but the fact that circumstances cause us to take a chance and make the choice puts us into the flow of life where God can guide us into the path of righteousness.

Did it ever occur to you, that the problems that are challenging our very existence, may very well be one called self-pride, or lack of will to surrender right where you are, in the very moment?

With-out knowledge or sense of direction, strong willed without guidance of the Holy Spirit, the battles we struggle with may actually be a part of the process (or calling) God has purposed for our lives. Our “life’s connection through circumstances, chances and choice are all part of a plan to consider as to whom we choose to follow in order to look to for guidance and direction.

As we find our place in life we often fail to realize or see far enough ahead to know that there is a greater force watching and waiting; he knows our actions and why we do and say the things we do, nothing is hidden to the invisible eye; he watches and cares for our very souls.

No struggle is beyond reach that it cannot be touched. The problem may be one called self-pride or lack of will to surrender right where we are, in the very moment. God holds us close, yet we will not take the opportunity to allow him to do a mighty work in our lives.

There  will  come times in our lives that we must , “Let go, and let God” be willing to place our “life’s circumstances, chances and choice in the hands of The Potter“; for the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, but chance happens to all (Ecclesiastes 9:11), we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the ruler of darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places (Ephesians 6:12).

Learn to appreciate and give dignity to your body, not abusing it, as is common among those who know nothing of God. Stay calm; mind your own business; do your job, live in a way that will command respect of outsiders. Be cheerful no matter what; pray all the time; thank God no matter what happens. This is the way God wants you who belong to Christ Jesus to live.

God makes everything holy and whole; spirit, soul and body, keeping us fit for the coming of the Master, Jesus Christ. The One who called you is completely dependable. If he said it, he’ll do it (1Thessalonians 4:4-5, 11, 16-18, 23-24 MGS).

God met me more than half way; he freed me from any anxious fears. Look at him; give him your warmest smile, never hide your feelings from him. When I was desperate, I called out, and God got me out of a tight spot. God’s angel sets up a circle of protection around us while we pray.

Open your mouth and taste, open your eyes and see—how good God is, blessed are you who run to him. Worship God if you want the best, worship opens doors to all his goodness. (Psalm 34:6-9). God keeps an eye on his friends; his ears pick up every moan and groan (15). If your heart is broken, you’ll find God right there; if you’re kicked in the gut, he’ll help you catch your breath. (16).

When confronted with life’s circumstances, choices and chance, work at developing the art of gratitude and thanksgiving in all things.

A life of hope and peace abounds when we place Life’s Connection through Circumstances, Choices and Chance at the feet of Jesus.

LIVING IN SIN IS A DEAD-END LIFE

LIVING IN SIN IS A DEAD-END LIFE

WRITTEN BY SHIRLEY RHODES

Believers of Jesus Christ, the time has come to stop living in sin, because sin is a dead-end life.  You must enter into the fullness and knowledge of Jesus Christ, and this should be the desire of our hearts.

The process is not something we figure out or achieve, Christ has already paid the price, destroying the power of sin. Submitting to baptism, going under water is a burial of the old life, coming up out of the water is resurrection to your brand new life. God lifting you from the dead as he did Christ; for you to continue living in sin is a dead-end life, which makes us incapable of responding to God, having a relationship deeply rooted in Him.

PASTOR DAVIS PERFORMS BAPTISM

Through baptism, all our sins are washed away and forgiven, the slate is wiped clean, nailed to the cross and we are now able to have a relationship with God and take part in all God has to offer. Jesus is the source of life that makes us complete, his very breath and blood flow through us. He is the Head and we are the body, we can only grow up healthy in God as he nourishes us.

After receiving Christ Jesus, the Master we live in him because we are deeply rooted and constructed upon him. We all know the teaching (the plan) revealed to us in John 15: 1-17.

Now it is time to do what we’ve been taught and start living it, and allow our living to spill over into thanks-giving. So if we are serious about living the new resurrection life with Christ, let’s act like it. Our mission should be to pursue those things over which Christ is head. Don’t shuffle along, eyes to the ground, look up and be alert to what is going on around us in Jesus Christ, see things from his perspective.

Our old life is dead; we now have been given a brand new life– even though invisible to onlookers—is with Christ in God. He is life. .Colossians 2:6-7, 11-15, 18-19; 3:3

“I, Jesus,” sent my Angel to testify:

I am the Beginning and Conclusion; the First and Final; A to Z; the Root and Branch of David, the Bright and Morning Star, “Come!” Whoever hears, echo, “Come!” Is anyone thirsty? “Come!” All who will come and drink drink freely of the Water of Life! Revelation 22:6-7, 9-10, 12-17.

Believers in Jesus Christ, now is the time to free ourselves from living in sin, and learn to live free indeed.  The choice is ours, the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ has made it all possible.  Now raise up your Holy Hands, and just begin to thank God, praise God and give Him all the honor and glory that can mustard from deep inside of you, because He is truly worthy, I say He is truly worthy, one more time, He is truly worthy to be praise.  Glory, Glory, Glory, Hallelujah!

HOW DOES THE BIBLE SPEAK TO FATHER’S ABOUT THE RAISING AND DISCIPLINE OF THEIR CHILDREN?

HOW DOES THE BIBLE SPEAK TO FATHER’S ABOUT THE RAISING AND DISCIPLINE OF THEIR CHILDREN?

A Father and Son Moment (Pastor Davis and son Maximillion)

By Minister Shirley Rhodes

Fathers as head of the family

Children will not remember you for the material things you provided but for the feeling that you cherished them. –Robert L. Evans

  • Fathers were once considered the head of the family and considered the provider and disciplinarian; that role today has been replaced with restrictions on their role as to how they raise their children within any means less favorable according to the government and society.  Many of the Christian values have been replaced with laws that forbid discipline by touching. According to the Scriptures children who are taught early will keep those values deep within even if they happen to choose a different path in life. A look into the Word that will give insight to fathers:

Children obey your parents in all things; for this is well pleasing to the Lord.

Fathers provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged (Colossians 3:20-21—KJV)

Children do what your parents tell you. This delights the Master to no end.

Parents don’t come down too hard on your children or you’ll crush their spirits (Mgs).

  • The book of Proverbs offers insight into behavior, warnings and consequences of disobedient children.

Guard your heart with all diligence for out of it is the issues of life (Proverbs 4:23).

A wise son makes a glad father; but a foolish son is grief of his mother (10:1).

A wise son hears’ his father’s instructions; but a scorner hears rebuke (13:1). He that spares the rod hates his son; but he that loves him chastened him early (24).

A wise son makes a glad father; but a foolish man despise his Mother (15:20).

Children’s children are the crown of old men; and the glory of children are their fathers (17:6). A foolish son is a grief to his father, and bitterness to her that bare him (25).

Punish thy son while there is hope, and let not thy soul spare for his crying (19:18).

He that abuses his father and chases away his mother is a son that causes shame, and brings reproach (26).

Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work is pure, and whether it is right (20:11).

Train up your child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it (22:6). Foolish is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him (15).

Withhold not correction from the child; for if you beat him with the rod, he shall not die. You shall beat him with the rod, and shall rescue his soul from hell (23: 13-14).

Hear my son and be wise, guide your heart in the way (19); Listen to your father that begat you, and despise not your mother when she is old (22). My sons, give me your heart, and let your eyes observe my ways (26).

The rod and reproof give wisdom; but a child left to himself brings his mother shame (29:15). Correct your son and he shall give you rest; he shall give delight unto your soul (17-18).

Having a Spirit of forgiveness

Forgiveness is the way to personal peace.  It is good for the soul, body and mind.  When we learn the art of forgiveness, we learn a truly good thing, and the very first thing we will notice, is the calmness of our spirit, and how peaceful all things become in our lives.  Jesus taught us the art of forgiveness, now let us study this lesson and learn from the Master himself.

FORGIVENESS (Photo by Pastor Davis)

FORGIVENESS (Photo by Pastor Davis)

In Luke 7:47-50 Jesus spoke these word, “Therefore, I say to you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much.  But to whom little is forgiven, the same loves little.  “Then He said to her, your sins are forgiven.”  And those who sat at the table with Him began to say to themselves, “Who is this who even forgives sins?”

Then He said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you.  Go in peace.”

The art of forgiveness begins when you forgive someone.

It is having a humble spirit and being done with pride and self-pity.  It is taking a step toward the practice of forgiveness.  Hate is death, forgiveness is life.

If the Lord can forgive us of our sins, why do we have such a difficult time of forgiving others when we perceive them to have done us wrong?  Getting rid of our heart aches and pains begins with us.  We must learn to free ourselves of all the negative baggage we carry around each and every day with our unforgiving spirit.

Forgiveness works the miracle of change.  When Lincoln was asked why he did not destroy his enemies, he replied:  “If I make my enemies my friends, don’t I then destroy them?”  When you forgive you change others and you change yourself.  You change discord to harmony.

Forgiveness should span the years.  You should first forgive yourself for the wrongs you’ve done to yourself and others, for the mistakes you’ve made.  Then you should forgive and bless all those who have wronged you during your lifetime.  Thus you release others and you release yourself.  You break the chains of regret and remorse that bind you.  You free your mind from the burdens of the past so you may walk victoriously into the future.

Forgiveness works two ways.  You must forgive to be forgiven.  “He who cannot forgive others,” wrote Edward Herbert, “breaks the bridge over which he himself must pass; for every man has the need to be forgiven.”

Forgiveness should become a habit.  When the Master was asked how often we should forgive, he answered: “Until seventy times seven.”  He who forgives to infinity will never hate.

Forgiveness should start now.  Putting off forgiving only deepens the wound.  Clinging to bitterness postpones happiness.  Life is short, time is fleeting.  Today is the day to forgive.

Forgiveness is the way to personal peace.  It is performing mental surgery in yourself, probing deep within to remove hurts, grudges and resentments.  It is forgetting wrongs as though they had never been.  It is flooding your mind with the powerful medicine of forgiveness that cleanses and heals.  It is discovering a serenity you’ve never known before.

Now learn the art of Forgiveness and you will experience the joy of real peace unlike anything you have ever experience before in your life.  We leave you with our peace that your soul will be blessed with everlasting joy in the name of Jesus.  Amen!

HOPE

CAN YOU KEEP A GRIP ON HOPE?

Lamentations 3:22-33

The Message (MSG)

God‘s loyal love couldn’t have run out,
his merciful love couldn’t have dried up.
They’re created new every morning.
How great your faithfulness!
I’m sticking with God (I say it over and over).
He’s all I’ve got left.

God proves to be good to the man who passionately waits,
to the woman who diligently seeks.
It’s a good thing to quietly hope,
quietly hope for help from God.
It’s a good thing when you’re young
to stick it out through the hard times.

When life is heavy and hard to take,
go off by yourself. Enter the silence.
Bow in prayer. Don’t ask questions:
Wait for hope to appear.
Don’t run from trouble. Take it full-face.
The “worst” is never the worst.

Why? Because the Master won’t ever
walk out and fail to return.
If he works severely, he also works tenderly.
His stockpiles of loyal love are immense.
He takes no pleasure in making life hard,
in throwing roadblocks in the way:

Jesus leaves us with a very profound message on just how one grain of wheat can produce a bountiful harvest.  Listen to what He says, 24I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains [just one grain; it never becomes more but lives] by itself alone. But if it dies, it produces many others and yields a rich harvest.” (John 12:24 AMP)

This picture that Jesus paints for us illustrates not only Jesus artistic abilities, but He illustrates it in such a manner that it leaves no doubt as to the meaning of His words and the impact that they could have on the whole human race if only we would take the time to conceptualize them.

Now meditate on this for a moment, when a grain of wheat is buried in the ground, it actually dies before becoming a mature blade producing many new kernels.  In the same way, Jesus, by his death, produced more fruit than could have been gained had he become the king of Israel on an earthly throne.  Indeed, by being lifted up on the cross, Jesus would draw all people to himself.  In this picture of the dying grain, Jesus spoke directly about his own life.  He does not necessarily require us to literally give up our lives in sacrificial death as the only way to be fruitful.  God does call some believers to die for him.  However, he calls many more to stay alive for fruitful service.

Now let us turn to (Romans 12:1-2) and see what is meant by His call for many more to stay alive for fruitful service.   1I APPEAL to you therefore, brethren, and beg of you in view of [all] the mercies of God, to make a decisive dedication of your bodies [presenting all your members and faculties] as a living sacrifice, holy (devoted, consecrated) and well pleasing to God, which is your reasonable (rational, intelligent) service and spiritual worship.

2Do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you].

Jesus makes a direct appeal to us, He even begs us in view of God’s mercies for us to give up the old way of life, and delicate our entire body as a living sacrifice, well pleasing to God, which is only our reasonable service.  He furthers employs us to be transformed, that is, changed by the renewing of our minds.  Spiritual transformation starts in the mind and heart.  A mind dedicated to the world and its concerns will produce a life tossed back and forth by the currents of culture.  But a mind dedicated to God’s truth will produce a life that can stand the test of time.  We can resist the temptations of our culture by meditating on God’s truth and letting the Holy Spirit guide and shape our thoughts and behaviors.

Now let me tell you this one truth, if anyone wishes to become a true follower of Jesus, you must get your priorities in order and this verse makes it perfectly clear why this must be.  Listen up,  25Anyone who loves his life loses it, but anyone who hates his life in this world will keep it to life eternal. [Whoever has no love for, no concern for, no regard for his life here on earth, but despises it, preserves his life forever and ever.]

If you choose to love your life more than your Master’s, you will lose the very life that you seek to maintain.  True disciples must be willing to suffer and experience rejection, even unto death if need be.  To serve and follow Jesus means making radical lifestyle changes.  To follow Jesus means going the way he went, not the way of earthly power and honor, but the way of humility and death.  Everything Jesus did was for God’s glory.  When we choose to follow him, we must live for God’s glory alone.  This does not mean we have no fun, no joy, no security.  Rather, it simply means we live to honor God and then the Father will honor us.

We must live to honor God, but in order to do so the old must die off in order for new fruit to reproduce it’s self.  You see, when a seed dies, it produces fruit.  Life comes by death.  This principle is true not only in nature, but it is also true spiritually.  Jesus was speaking first, and foremost of Himself.  He is the grain of wheat.  His death would produce much fruit and would result in many living for God.  When you live for God, you honor God.
