Saturday Morning Devotional Service of Prayer and Praise (Lifting up Holy Hands)

Now let us go before the Lord in Prayer lifting up Holy Hands…

provision-16139172-P-e1411639376986

Since prayer is at the bottom of all this, what I want mostly is for men to pray—not shaking angry fists at enemies but raising holy hands to God. And I want women to get in there with the men in humility before God, not primping before a mirror or chasing the latest fashions but doing something beautiful for God and becoming beautiful doing it.  (1 Timothy 2:8-10 MSG)

LET US PRAY:

TIME FOR ALTER CALL

So that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,  and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (Philippians 2:10-11 ESV)

HOW TO RECEIVE THE GIFT OF ETERNAL LIFE

What must I do to be saved? This question was first asked by a jailer at Ephesus, who witnessed an earthquake that freed Paul and Silas. Paul and Silas were the Church’s first official evangelists, who had been falsely arrested and beaten and left in his charge. The earthquake came as the climax to a midnight prison cell prayer and praise meeting and it spurred the jailer to consider the condition of his soul.  What must I do to be saved, you asked?  If you truly want to be saved, listen to what the Lord says you must do, “you should first go to God in prayer.  When praying to Him you should tell Him you are sorry for the sinful things that you have done against Him and how you want to do the right thing from now on (1 John 1:9Acts 20:21). Next you should ask Him to forgive your sins through His death payment on the cross (Colossians 2:10-14). Last, make a commitment to God that you will wholly follow His commandments and believe on Him and His Word, with the help of His Holy Spirit (John 14:15).  Congratulations, you are SAVED (John 8:32)! You have become a new person, and you will be able to live a life that is pleasing to God (2 Corinthians 5:14-17 ). Now, God will come into your heart and live with you (Revelation 3:20). This is so you can be close to Him, receive His power, and understand His Word (1 John 3:16Acts1:8John14:26).

DO YOU KNOW WHERE YOU WILL SPEND ETERNITY?

Thank you for your prayers and service to the Kingdom of God. Please return in a few hours as we will continue with our Sunday Prayer, Praise and Worship Service.  May God bless you abundantly as you go out into the world this day and serve.

Listening requires discipline and patience

PUT A ZIPPER ON YOUR MOUTH AND LEARNTO LISTEN

Zipper Mouth

Learning to listen to others requires much discipline, and discipline requires patience.  We have gotten so use to babbling that we forgot how to listen and understand what others are saying.  Now if you understood anything about those first two sentences, and are ready to listen to the words that are being spoken to you today, you might be able to walk in the newest of life and find much more joy, peace, contentment and happiness in your relationships.

Our mouth and that little thing called our tongue gets us into a world of trouble at times.  If we would put a zipper on our mouth and be swift to listen and slow to speak, we can transform our lives in ways unimaginable at other times.  For believers, this is a lesson you must practice daily.  For non-believers, you must seek the Lord for guidance and salvation in order to begin the process, because God‘s perfect law must be put into practice in our speech.  Why? Because God’s law is truth, and the law sets people free.  It is only in obeying God that true freedom can be found.  As Christian’s, we are saved by God’s grace, and salvation frees us from sin‘s control, speaking and not listen.  As believers we are free to live as God created us to live.  Of course, this does not mean that we are free to do as we please.

Now let us clearly understand this one truth, and that is, we must be swift to listen and slow to speak.  The expression be quick to listen is a beautiful way of capturing the idea of active listening as it is taught in (James 1:19).  James explains to us that we are not simply to refrain from speaking; we are to be ready and willing to listen.  This “quick” listening is obviously to be done with discernment.  We are to check what we hear with God’s word.  If we don’t listen both carefully and quickly, we are liable to be led into all kinds of false teaching and error.

Quick to listen and slow to speak should be taken together as sides of the same coin.  Slowness in speaking means speaking with humility and patience, not with hasty words or nonstop babbling.  Constraint talking keeps a person from being able to hear.  Wisdom is not always having something to say, it involves listening carefully, considering prayerfully, and speaking quietly.  When we talk too much and listen too little, we communicate to others that we think our ideas are much more important than theirs.  James wisely advises us to reverse this process.  We need to put a mental stopwatch on our conversations and keep track of how much we talk and how much we listen.  When people talk to us, do they feel that their viewpoints and ideas have value?

Putting a zipper on one’s mouth and learning to listen requires the same set of skills as an athlete.  In order for an athlete to achieve greatest he must persevere in training in order to improve their abilities and endurance for competition, so do we, in order to persevere in spiritual training our senses need to be swift to listen and slow to speak, as we patiently endure testing that will bring maturity and completeness.

We must come to a point in our lives where we know that God’s long term goal for us is maturity and completeness, but his eternal goal for us is the crown of life, a rich expression of hope.  We can only arrive at this point when we learn to be obedient to the word of God.  Know the truth and the truth will set you free.  Be swift to listen and slow to speak.  PUT A ZIPPER ON YOUR MOUTH AND LEARN TO LISTEN!

Experience The Powers In God’s Amazing Grace (Part 3 Of 3)

WHERE WOULD WE BE TODAY WITHOUT GOD’S AMAZING GRACE?

EXPERIENCE THE POWER OF GOD'S AMAZING GRACE (Photo by Pastor Davis)

EXPERIENCE THE POWER OF GOD’S AMAZING GRACE (Photo by Pastor Davis)

This lesson today will conclude our three part series on “GOD’S AMAZING GRACE!” So let us begin by listening to one of the greatest gospel singers of all times, “Mahalia Jackson,” and we will continue our discussion on the other side.

I know deep in my soul that this song has had an impact on your thought process.  It has made you pause and think for a moment just why God has allowed you to be where you are in your life today.  When we understand and can comprend in our thought process the deep meaning of these words, we know in our hearts that it was only by His grace, we were spared, the wrath we deserve.  Instead, we receive the favor we do not deserve. Why is this true? The answer is found in the two words: through Christ. It is because of Christ’s death in our place that we do not experience the wrath of God, which we so richly deserve. Jesus satisfied God’s justice and turned away God’s wrath from us by bearing it Himself on our behalf. Now God can extend mercy to us without subverting His justice. Mercy and justice meet together at the cross.

Jesus did more, however, than satisfy God’s justice and turn aside His wrath. By His perfect obedience, He earned for us all of God’s favor, all of His blessings. To use my kid’s illustration, they would say, Dad, “He mowed the grass, trimmed the hedges, washed the windows and painted the porch. He did it all. He perfectly obeyed all the law of God, and He did it in our place.”  Just as He died in our place, so He also obeyed in our place. That is why those two words “through Christ” are so critical to the definition of grace. Without Christ’s work for us, there could be no grace.

Therefore, when we speak of God’s grace, we mean all the good gifts we enjoy freely in this life, and there are so many. We could spend a lifetime celebrating them, and there is no need to attempt to list them here.  Your own life is a mirror of them all. A summary approach is to affirm that life itself is the fundamental gift, with all its delights. For us, the gift of life includes the wondrous gift of being human, finding ourselves plopped down in the midst of the larger gift of creation. That is the bedrock of gracecreation, life, and human being. As humans, we are given a unique place in the created order.

Now please allow me to conclude with this thought, “Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.  Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, and grace my fears relieved; How precious did that grace appear the hour I first believed.  Do you believe it was grace and nothing but grace that has brought you through many dangers, tolls and snares.  Do you believe that it was nothing but grace that has brought you safe thus far, and it will be nothing but grace that will lead you home?  Grace, God’s Amazing grace; how sweet the sound that saved a wretch, the likes of me! Today My Brothers and Sisters we continue with part 2 of our lesson title: Experience the powers of God’s Amazing Grace.  We encourage you to go back and read part 1 again that it may expand your thinking as you begin to read and study part 2 on this most beautiful day

Now, when I look back over my life, I know that it was nothing but God’s amazing grace that brought me through my trials and tribulations, and I am certain you will say the same.  This amazing grace comes only from the Lord and is simply the God-given desire and the power to do God’s will.

In order to help us truly appreciate and understand the value that this one song has done to help transform our lives and the lives of people all over the world, let me share with you the history of this great song.  Now please take note of this next video because it does provide us with a deep understanding of the History of this song Amazing Grace as this part of the lesson is taught by Dr. Wintley Phipps.  We will join you in words once again when Dr. Phipps has concluded.

Amazing Grace” is a Christian hymn written by English poet and clergyman John Newton (1725–1807), published in 1779. With a message that forgiveness and redemption are possible regardless of the sins people commit and that the soul can be delivered from despair through the mercy of God, “Amazing Grace” is one of the most recognizable songs in the English-speaking world.

Newton wrote the words from personal experience. He grew up without any particular religious conviction but his life’s path was formed by a variety of twists and coincidences that were often put into motion by his recalcitrant insubordination. He was pressed into the Royal Navy and became a sailor, eventually participating in the slave trade. One night a terrible storm battered his vessel so severely that he became frightened enough to call out to God for mercy, a moment that marked the beginning of his spiritual conversion. His career in slave trading lasted a few years more until he quit going to sea altogether and began studying theology.

Ordained in the Church of England in 1764, Newton became curate of Olney, Buckinghamshire, where he began to write hymns with poet William Cowper. “Amazing Grace” was written to illustrate a sermon on New Year’s Day of 1773. It is unknown if there was any music accompanying the verses, and it may have been chanted by the congregation without music. It debuted in print in 1779 in Newton and Cowper’s Olney Hymns, but settled into relative obscurity in England. In the United States however, “Amazing Grace” was used extensively during the Second Great Awakening in the early 19th century. It has been associated with more than 20 melodies, but in 1835 it was joined to a tune named “New Britain” to which it is most frequently sung today.

Author Gilbert Chase writes that “Amazing Grace” is “without a doubt the most famous of all the folk hymns,” and Jonathan Aitken, a Newton biographer, estimates that it is performed about 10 million times annually.  It has had particular influence in folk music, and become an emblematic African American spiritual. Its universal message has been a significant factor in its crossover into secular music. “Amazing Grace” saw a resurgence in popularity in the U.S. during the 1960s and has been recorded thousands of times during and since the 20th century, sometimes appearing on popular music charts.

This concludes part 2 of 3, please return tomorrow for the conclusion of this great lesson.  We hope that thus far your souls have been blessed with God’s Amazing Grace as He has given it to all of us. Please use this moment and bless someone else with your blessing by sharing this lesson with them. We bless all that you have experienced here today in Jesus name, Amen!

As we go through life day by day, trying to understand our amazing lives, our purpose for being here which includes our destination, and how we are able to travel towards that goal we have set for ourselves, although we stumble and fall, we soon discover that we all have a story to tell.

Our stories on the surface may seem to be different, but when we look deeply at where we are and how we got to where we are, the story lines begin to merge and we all begin to repeat the same line we “are saved” by “grace.”  It was nothing but God’s amazing grace that brought me through the darkness of this wilderness and into His marvelous lightGrace is God’s unmerited favor. It is kindness from God we don’t deserve. There is nothing we have done, nor can ever do to earn this favor. It is a true spiritual gift from God. Grace is divine assistance given to us humans for our regeneration (rebirth) or sanctification; a virtue coming from God; a state of sanctification enjoyed through divine favor.

I have come to see the doctrine of the God’s Amazing Grace  as one of the dominant themes of the Bible. In musical terms, God’s Amazing Grace is like the melody line of a beautiful song, and the greatest song of all that comes to my mind is, “Amazing Grace.”  As a rule, only one note carries the melody, and all of the other notes serve to compliment that note with a harmony. I believe that grace is the dominant note in God’s dealings with man. His justice, His holiness, His omnipotence, and His omniscience are all an integral part of the music of His character and activities, but grace stands apart and above them all.

Now pause with me for a moment and let us listen to one of my favorite songs that really tell the true story of God’s redeeming quality for all of us who have accepted Jesus, as our Lord and savior, and then we will continue this discussion on the other side of this beautiful melody.

When I look back over my life, I know that it was nothing but God’s amazing grace that brought me through my trials and tribulations, and I am certain you will say the same.  This amazing grace comes only from the Lord and is simply the God-given desire and the power to do God’s will.

Thank you for reading and studying with us this day. I pray this lesson has been a blessing to your soul. If it has please share it with your friends and followers that they too may receive and experience the Lord’s amazing grace as well.

Part two of the Lord’s Amazing Grace Story will continue on Thursday of this week and part three will follow on Friday.  Please come back everyday and study with us, we teach seven days a week.  When you bless another, the Lord will fill your life with abundance of blessings because you took the time to bless someone else.  Thank you my friends, we love you and we appreciate you…

Monday’s Word of Encouragement (Be Encouraged by the Word of God)

BE ENCOURAGED BY THE WORD OF GOD

PUT ON THE WHOLE ARMOR OF GOD

Know the truth and the truth will set you free

Know the truth and the truth will set you free

Good Morning to all God’s people where ever you may be, it is Monday Morning, the beginning of a brand new week.  As you leave your homes and families and begin your journey to execute the task that you have been given, we want you to be encouraged by the word of God, with His entire blessings of love, peace and power, to overcome the many trials and tribulations that will come upon you this day

. “PUT ON THE WHOLE ARMOR OF GOD!”

We encourage you, in all that you may do, too know the truth, know the word and use it as your weapon to fight evil wherever it may exist.  For this is truly a brand new day that God has made for you and I to rejoice and be glad in it.  He has chosen each one of you for a very specific task this week and he has given you a purpose for carrying it out, and pointed you in the right direction that will enable you to be successful on your all important assignment.

Now finally, the people of God, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might.  Put on the whole armor of God that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.

Therefore take up the whole armor of God that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of Godpraying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication.

To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints, and also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains, that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak.  (Ephesians 6:10-20 ESV)

Now have no doubts that the devil is waiting to take you down, and keep you from receiving your crown, but the choice is yours, obey the word of God and the devil can never be in charge. PUT ON THE WHOLE ARMOR OF GOD.  We bless this word to you this morning that you will receive it in the manner that it is given and share it with all those that you love as a word of encouragement and protection of their souls, in Jesus name, AMEN!

Now may the peace of the Lord rest and resize with you throughout your journey through space and time this week.  Live, love and enjoy all that has been set before you at the table of blessings, for it is truly yours given in love by the abundant hands of the one who holds all things in the palm of His ever loving hands.
