There is something to learn from this woman

There is something to learn from this woman

I really love reading this old book.  It has so much relevance to our past, present and future. This month I was struggling with wanting to give up, and this old book encouraged me like nothing else could.  Here is the amazing story of a woman who didn’t quit, and as a result I have been encouraged not to quit.

Luke 18 where Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up2He said: In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared about men. 3And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, Grant me justice against my adversary. 4For some time he refused. But finally he said to himself, Even though I don’t fear God or care about men, 5yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won’t eventually wear me out with her coming6And the Lord said, Listen to what the unjust judge says. 7And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? 8I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?

If anyone had a cause to quit, it was this widow woman. Widows were one of the weakest most vulnerable members of society.  Think about the circumstances of this woman.

  • She had a helper that wouldn’t help; He refused (v.4)
  • The judge cared nothing about God or people; (v. 4)
  • Her request for justice lasted some time; a long time; it was a while; (v.4)
  • She was like a stranger in town;
  • She was by herself. No one pleaded with her.

How often do we let our social position stop us?  Here is a woman who had no clout and yet, she did not quit or give up on what she knew she deserved.  Even in the face of a stubborn and unjust judge who was expected to be a legitimate means of help.  Why didn’t the widow woman just give up?

I believe two reasons really sum up why:

  1. This woman refused to be victimized by her status or her problem.
  2. This woman never asked the judge WHY? She just kept coming back!

How often do we let our status or lack thereof determine what we will do and achieve in life.  I understand we live in a world where a good socio-economic status can be the launching pad for success.  But, what about people who have little or nothing to launch from?  What about people who don’t come from the “right” family? What about the people who are smart but don’t have the degrees to show for it? What about those who help others and don’t care about who getting attention for it?  What about, what about, what about? I could go on and on.  Do these people ask why? Or do they keep pushing forward, keep trying, keep helping, keep learning, keep standing.

What do you do when you feel deserving of something that you are denied of, or it’s seemingly out of reach?  Do you quit?  Do you give up?

If this widow woman was able to receive justice from an unjust judge simply by being persistent and bothersome, how much more can you and I receive from God who is a righteous judge?  It’s not our persistent, continual coming to God that causes Him to grant our request, it is our faith.  God is our righteous judge and earth is the only place where we have the opportunity to exercise our faith.

With God all things are possible!

What is Christmas all about

Our message throughout this Christmas Season has been, “Sharing and Caring!”  In today’s message we continue to carry forth that same theme and adding the word giving.  We find that the spirit of giving was established by God himself when He gave to us His son Jesus that the world may be saved through Him, because he loved us, cared for us and then shared with us his love for the entire world by giving us the greatest gift of all, his son Jesus Christ.  So this short message today is in keeping with that same spirit of giving, sharing and caring.

Book Tour of Award-Winning Author L. Dwain Boswell

I am excited to guest post on this wonderful blog as a part of my virtual book tour.  My first book, “Sex Lies & Alibis”, has proven to be a blessing to more than family and friends.  Many have given their reviews of the book including a 5-STAR independent review.  I’m convinced that my love for God and people has shown through in every chapter.  This post is one that encouraged me to press forward with my goal of becoming a published author.  And I have noticed that it is applicable to almost anything you want to do in life, if you simply apply the principle of persistence.

The objective was not to become an award-winning author.  My objective was to compile over 10 years of research, make it available in quality print and digital eBook format, and deliver a professionally finished book to as many people as possible.  As a result of this hard work, diligence, and persistence, it is now an “AWARD WINNING BOOK”.  Consequently, I have achieved the title of “AWARD WINNING AUTHOR”.

Thanks to Pastor Davis for allowing me to share this guest post with his readers:

Look for this author’s special post on Thursday December 18, 2014. You will be blessed from his great writing skills.  Also check out his blog here:  (I Am Worth the Effort Blog)

CHIDREN OF GOD, in our PRAYER, PRAISE and WORSHIP SERVICE for this SUNDAY MORNING, we present to you our CHRISTMAS STORY beginning with the Birth of John as God’s divine plan unfolds for many UNBELIEVEING MINDS.  It is a story that many of us have read and studied over a long period of time, but in it all there is always a ray of HOPE and INSPIRATION for a greater tomorrow when we celebrate this beautiful story of the unfolding birth of OUR LORD AND SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST.  Our lesson today is simply title:  “BELIEVE!”  Allow this word to sink deep into your sub-conscious minds, and renew your Spirit daily whenever doubt begin to creep in.  Let us lift up God in high praise for His mighty works, for He is worthy to be PRAISED.

LET US PRAY FOR UNBELIEVING MINDS:

Pastor Davis in Prayer as Zachariah

Pastor Davis in Prayer as Zachariah

Eternal God, Our Heavenly Father, we thank you for those among us who have believed, and we seek divine intervention into the minds of those that are still wavering in their faith.  For we know that with you Heavenly Father, all things are possible to those who believe.  Transforming a world of unbelieving minds may seem to be an impossible task for some, but we as believers are trusting you Heavenly Father, because we know that it is possible.  You sent your only Son into an unbelieving world as a gift that those among us who would believe in Him should not perish but be transformed into a brand new creature and enjoy eternal life.  Through our prayers Heavenly Father we are seeking the same transformation for those unbelieving minds among us today to come into the full knowledge and understanding that you are God, and they can do nothing without you.  And for this Christmas Season, our prayers are for those unbelieving minds to know that Jesus is truly the reason for this Season.  Amen!

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE READING:

For with God, nothing shall be impossible.  (Luke 1:37)

Background Scriptures for today’s lesson is from (Luke 1:1-37)

TODAY’S MESSAGE IS TITLE:  “BELIEVE”

Our Christmas Story is a true and profound statement by God who can do all things but fail.  All He asks us to do is to BELIEVE.  In this story, God performed one of the greatest miracles known to man, yet we find it very difficult to BELIEVE when the simplest things are right before our very own eyes.  WHY?  Do we not know that God can never lie, if He lies He will denied Himself.  So why do we continue not to BELIEVE the word of God when the Word of God is truth in itself?

Perhaps, like so many before us, we want God to show us a sign.  Let us examine for a moment the High Priest Zachariah, who was a minister of God that worked at the Temple managing its upkeep, teaching the people the Scriptures, and directing the worship services.  When God sent His Angel Gabriel to tell Zachariah that he and His Wife Elizabeth was going to have a son Zachariah words came perilously close to doubt, [disbelief].  Zachariah wanted more than the word from this Heavenly visitor, he wanted a sign from God.

ZACHARIAH QUESTIONS GOD'S MESSANGER GABRIEL

ZACHARIAH QUESTIONS GOD’S MESSANGER GABRIEL

So Zachariah question the angle by asking, “How can I know this will happen?”  At that very moment Zachariah saw only the obstacles and not the possibilities of the Good News that the Angel Gabriel was presenting to him from God.  His thoughts were that he and Elizabeth were both well past their childbearing years.  In Zachariah mind, he could not see, comprehend or even understand how God could perform such a miracle and place such a burden on him and his wife at this late stage in their lives.  Gabriel explained to Zachariah by stating, “I am Gabriel; I stand in the very presence of God.”  (Luke 1:19)

When we do not BELIEVE and allow doubt to creep in and rule over our unbelieving minds, it will result in some sort of punishment.  God has His own ways of letting us know that He is not please with our actions, and just like any loving parent, He will punish us for our unbelieving minds.  In Zachariah unbelieving mind, he asked for a sign and was quickly granted his request.  He would be unable to speak until the Child was born.  The angel’s words would certainly come true at the proper time, whether Zachariah BELIEVED or not.  God’s plan had been set in motion and nothing could stop it.  (LUKE 1:20)

Zachariah and Elizabeth had been childless for many years and God had promised a son to them, and God kept His promise.  The promise came even before this child was ever conceived.  God was waiting for the right time to ENCOURAGE them and take away their disgrace of not being able to bare a child in their early childbearing years.  Elizabeth soon realized that in this impossible pregnancy, God had performed a MIRACLE.  (Luke 1:23-25)

What God has done for Zachariah and Elizabeth, He will do the same for you.  With God, nothing is impossible, all you have to do is, “BELIEVE!”

THE STORY OF THE BIRTH OF JOHN

When Elizabeth was full-term in her pregnancy, she bore a son, Her neighbors and relatives, seeing that God had over whelmed her with mercy, celebrated with her.

On the eighth day, they came to circumcise the child and were calling him Zachariah after his father. But his mother intervened: “No. He is to be called John.”

“But,” they said, “no one in your family is named that.” They used sign language to ask Zachariah what he wanted him named.

Asking for a tablet, Zachariah wrote, “His name is to be John.” That took everyone by surprise. Surprise followed surprise—Zachariah’s mouth was now open, his tongue loose, and he was talking, praising God!

Amen.

THE BLESSINGS OF CHRISTMAS BY PASTOR DAVIS

Today, we present to you one of the most Incredible Christmas Story ever told.  It was told to us by Luke, “a Disciple of Jesus Christ,” with no trees or lights, just a manger and animals and a too-crowded inn.  It isn’t surprising that there was no room for them in the village inn considering the number of travelers flocking to various cities during the time of this census.

At some time during their visit in Bethlehem, the promised child was bornMary wrapped the baby in strips of cloth, which were bands of cloth that were used to keep a baby warm and give it a sense of security.  These cloths were believed to protect its internal organs.  This custom of wrapping infants is still practiced in many Mid-eastern countries.  Then Mary laid him in a manger, an animal’s feeding trough.  She may have filled the manger with hay to make a soft bed.  This mention of the manger is the basis for the traditional belief that Jesus was born in a stableStables were often caves with feeding troughs (mangers) carved into the rock walls.  Despite popular Christmas card pictures, the surrounding was dark and dirty.  Everything pointed to obscurity, poverty, and even rejectionLuke showed the King of Kings born into poor and humble circumstances, born as a human, born to serve.  Now listen to this great story and continue reading on the other side of this clip.

And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be taxed.

(And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)

And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.

And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)

To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.

And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.

And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.

And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord.

And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.

And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.

And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.

And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds.

But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.

And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.  (Luke 2:1-20 KJV)

We bless this message to you this day, that you and your family will receive the promise of hope, and that the joy of this Christmas will be an everlasting experience for all to enjoy. Now as you watch this final video clip, let all remember the reason for celebrating Christmas.  From our family to yours, I remain your brother in Christ Jesus, Pastor Davis/Master Teacher!

SERMON ON THE MOUNT Photo taken near Salt Lake City, Utah Photo by Pastor Davis

CHILDREN OF GOD, it is truly the SEASON to be filled with joy, for the Lord our God has bestowed upon each one of us many great and wonderful BLESSINGS throughout this year.  As the year begin to come to a close and the birth of our Lord and Savior JESUS CHRIST, is near, the Spirit of the Lord prompted me to remind each of you just how BLESSED you readily are because He spoke these words as a reminder from HIS SERMON ON THE MOUNT.

When Jesus saw his ministry drawing huge crowds, he climbed a hillside. Those who were apprenticed to him, the committed, climbed with him. Arriving at a quiet place, he sat down and taught his climbing companions. This is what he said:

“You’re blessed when you’re at the end of your rope. With less of you there is more of God and his rule.

“You’re blessed when you feel you’ve lost what is most dear to you. Only then can you be embraced by the One most dear to you.

“You’re blessed when you’re content with just who you are—no more, no less. That’s the moment you find yourselves proud owners of everything that can’t be bought.

“You’re blessed when you’ve worked up a good appetite for God. He’s food and drink in the best meal you’ll ever eat.

“You’re blessed when you care. At the moment of being ‘care-full,’ you find yourselves cared for.

“You’re blessed when you get your inside world—your mind and heart—put right. Then you can see God in the outside world.

“You’re blessed when you can show people how to cooperate instead of compete or fight. That’s when you discover who you really are, and your place in God’s family.

“You’re blessed when your commitment to God provokes persecution. The persecution drives you even deeper into God’s kingdom.

“Not only that—count yourselves blessed every time people put you down or throw you out or speak lies about you to discredit me. What it means is that the truth is too close for comfort and they are uncomfortable. You can be glad when that happens—give a cheer, even!—for though they don’t like it, I do! And all heaven applauds. And know that you are in good company. My prophets and witnesses have always gotten into this kind of trouble. (Matthew 5:1-12 MSG)

Brothers and Sisters, the Lord has spoken these words to you.  I ENCOURAGE you to stay focus and keep your eye on the prize during this CHRISTMAS SEASON.  Never forget that JESUS is the reason for the SEASON.
