Honoring the Legacy of a visionary with a great dream

My dear brothers and sisters let us all take pride in this day, for it is truly a day to honor one of God’s greatest servants.  We owe it to ourselves to be mindful of who we are, who God is and who we are in God by remembering that we are our brother’s keepers.  We all are God’s children, and together we stand, divided we fall.

We live in a divided nation, a divided world, but slowly after 50 plus years the generations are bridging the gap between the races.  We still have a very long ways to go, DR MARTIN LUTHER KING JR 03and there are still some among us who are intent on turning the clock back on the major struggles that so many have fought for and many more have die in the battle.

But in the words of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, nothing is impossible to those of us who believe.  He further said, the race is not to the swift nor the strongest but to those who have the patience to endure the trials and hardship of the struggle doing the course of the race.

On August 28, 1963 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr gave his now famous “I have a dream speech.”  Here are a couple paragraphs from that speech:

I say to you today my friends, so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream.  It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream.

I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed.  “We hold these truths to be self-evident; that all men are created equal.”

I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

This dream is still alive and burning deep in the souls of our children, and no matter how hard those who oppose and deny this dream as been achievable,  it will manifest DR MARTIN LUTHER KING JR 05itself and become a reality for all races of people no matter where they may be in this world.

We all were awakened this morning and provided with the opportunity of living in the future, with great hopes and the aspirations of achieving greatness in our season. For God shows us things that we may not always understand or even comprehend within our limited thinking, but he gave us this day as a very special holiday to honor, and celebrate the life and legacy of one of the world’s greatest visionaries who had a dream and a vision and dared to live out that dream. That person was none other than the Honorable Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

When God spoke to Habakkuk, He told him this, He said, “Write the vision and engrave it so plainly upon tablets that everyone who passes may [be able to] read [it easily and quickly] as he hastens by. (Habakkuk 2:2-3 KJV) this is what Dr. King did for us in his day and time, he wrote the vision, and he wrote it upon each one of our hearts, that wherever we are that we may be able to see it, read it, and live it in our day and time.

The scriptures are truly an amazing teacher when we take the time to study and then DR MARTIN LUTHER KING JR 02obey what God is teaching us. Here again we see how God spoke directly to another Prophet of today in this scripture; now listen up, “For I know the thoughts and plans that I have for you, says the Lord, thoughts and plans for welfare and peace and not for evil, to give you hope in your final outcome.” (Jeremiah 29:11 AMP) and this part of the Scriptures we can see the journey be in birth as God gave it to one of his great prophets, and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. followed in the footsteps of this prophet.

We are called into action this day to do our part to keep the dream alive. How each one of us uses this day will bear heavily on our own individual futures. A dream a vision a future is alive in each one of us, what will we do this day to birth it into reality?

There are many people in this world that are living in denial of this legacy and the many great contributions that Dr. King made to this world. Their denial is based on ignorance and stupidity, but Dr. King’s dream will live on in eternity. Because of Dr. King’s dream and a vision he birthed hope for a brighter future in the lives of many young people from all around the world, and people of all races creeds, colors, and religious backgrounds were awakened to the reality that they too, would be able to achieve greatness within themselves.

In Dr. Martin Luther King’s dream and vision he followed the pathway of another greatDR MARTIN LUTHER KING JR 07 servant of God, and asked God to guide his heart and give him understanding on how to lead his people. That’s servant was King Solomon who led the nation of Israel for many generations before the birth of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. King Solomon had a dream and he went before God, and he said to God,” give therefore thy servant and understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and evil, for who is able to judge this thy so great a people? (1 King 3:9 KJV)

We as the CHILDREN OF GOD are all called to dream great dreams, and then dare to live out those dreams. We must be about the business of God each and every day, doing his will as we walk in the path of righteousness for his name sake. Yes my brothers and sisters, let us use this day as a day of action, that we as children of God who seek God’s guidance and understanding to live together as one people, not separated by race or the color of our skin, but truly recognize in each other the content of our characters, and live in peace with love in our hearts for one another.

Now may the grace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, be upon each one of you to walk out your purpose and live in his will and seek his blessings over your life and the lives of all those who come into your presence this day, in Jesus name, Amen!
