UNDERSTANDING THE REAL BATTLES IN OUR LIVES

The real battle of life is one of ideas; it is being fought out by the few against the many, on the one side is the constructive and creative thought, on the other side the destructive and negative thought; the creative thought is dominated by an ideal, the passive thought is dominated by appearance.  On both sides are men and women of science, of letters, and of affairs. On the creative side are men and women who spend their time in laboratories, or over microscopes and telescopes, side by side with the one’s who dominate the commercial, political, and scientific world; on the negative side or men and women who spend their time investigating law and precedent, who mistake theology for religion, statesmen who mistake might for right, and all the millions who seem to prefer precedent to progress, who are eternally looking backward instead of forward, who see only the world without, but know nothing of the world within.

We frequently hear it said, “A very distressing situation came into my life, which could not have been the result of my thought, as I certainly never entertained any thought which could have such a result.”  What we fail to remember is that like attracts like in the mental world, and that the thought which we entertain brings to us certain friendships, companion-ships of a particular kind, and these in turn bring about conditions and environment, which in turn are responsible for the conditions of which we complain.

A student wrote and asked this question: In what does the creative power of thought consist?  My answer to this question is very simple; It consists in creating ideas, and these in turn objectify themselves by appropriating, inventing, observing, discerning, discovering, analyzing, ruling, governing, combining, and applying matter and force.  It can do this because it is an intelligent creative power, and that my friend is the reality of The Creative Powers of Your Thought.

Knowledge is often described as good judgment, wisdom as application of that good judgment in the form of actions.

UNDERSTANDING OUR TWO WORLDS

Now let us understand this very important fact, there is a world within each of us—a world of thought and feeling and power; of light and life and beauty and, although invisible, its forces are mighty.

This world that is within us is governed by our mind.  When we discover this world we shall find the solution for every problem, the cause for every effect; and since the world within is subject to our control, and all laws of power and possession are also within our control.

However, our world that is without is a reflection of the world within.  What appears without is what has been found within.  In the world within may be found infinite Wisdom, infinite Power, and infinite Supply of all that is necessary, waiting for enfoldment, development, and expression.  If we recognize these potentialities in the world within they will take form in the world without.

Jesus said, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your passion and prayer and intelligence.’ This is the most important, the first on any list. But there is a second to set alongside it: ‘Love others as well as you love yourself.’ These two commands are pegs; everything in God’s Law and the Prophets hangs from them.”  (Matthew 22:37-40 MSG)

The national mental status in the U.S. appears to be shaky. Depression, despair, stress, anxiety, anger, revenge, prolonged grief, jealousy, and apathy abound. Many others could be listed. These can be powerful disease triggers. The results of a national survey by the U.S. Department of Health, Education, and Welfare indicated that 25 percent of the population admitted to being under a major degree of stress. One source estimated that perhaps one-third of Americans could be considered mentally healthy.

If a partial list were to be composed of physical diseases with apparent psychological components, it would look something like this: allergies, asthma, angina, arthritis, back pain, cancer, hair and scalp problems, headaches, heart disease, hypertension, insomnia, impotence, irritable bowel syndrome, skin problems, and ulcers. It has been estimated that 75 percent of all complaints that patients present are stress related.

How does our mind contribute to disease? Negative emotions trigger the release of certain hormones and stimulate the nervous system in such a way as to put stress on the various organs in the body. As these organs are subjected to this stress over long periods of time they become weakened. Once weakened they are more susceptible to disease processes invading from without or being triggered from within. Which organs are affected first, and to what degree, depends upon the person’s heredity, constitution, environment, and lifestyle. By the time symptoms of disease occur it is often difficult to trace them from cause to effect and to know for sure which risk factors played the primary role in the disease process.
