JESUS ENTERS JERUSALEM RIDING UPON A DONKEY

Jesus Riding on a Donkey into Jerusalem (photo by photobucket.com)

As you begin to study this lesson and the many lessons you will study on this subject, be assured that all four gospels were in agreement on this great celebration and spoke clearly about the event.  Here are the chapters and verses you can find what each had to say:  (Matthew 21:1-11, Mark 11:1-11, Luke 19:28-44, and John 12:12-19).

Now let us understand that Believers as well as non believers from around the world will begin this Sunday Morning CELEBRATING PALM SUNDAY, and we encourage you, where ever you may be to join us here as well as your local church community and together we will lift up the one who said, “If I be lifted up, I will draw all men unto me.”  It is a day of remembrance of the triumphal entry into Jerusalem by Jesus as he sit upon a DONKEY.  This was the first day of the week that Jesus would be crucified, and the great Passover festival was about to begin.  Jews would come to Jerusalem from all over the Roman world during this week-long celebration to remember the great Exodus from Egypt.

THE DONKEY SEEN AS THE TRUE SYMBOL OF PEACE (PHOTO BY PASTOR DAVIS)

THE DONKEY SEEN AS THE TRUE SYMBOL OF PEACE (PHOTO BY PASTOR DAVIS)

The symbolism of the donkey may refer to the Eastern tradition that it is an animal of peace, versus the horse, which is the animal of war.  Therefore, a king came riding upon a horse when he was bent on war and rode upon a donkey when he wanted to point out he was coming in peace. Therefore, Jesus’ entry to Jerusalem symbolized his entry as the Prince of Peace, not as a war-waging king.

When Jesus entered Jerusalem on a donkey’s colt, he affirmed his messianic royalty, as well as his humility.  The people recognized that he was fulfilling prophecy.  The colt, never having been ridden, did not have a saddle, so the disciples threw their garments over the colt so that Jesus could sit on it.  The action of placing the cloaks on the donkey and Jesus riding it connotes majesty.  Crowds of people had already gathered on this stretch of road a mile outside of Jerusalem, going to the city for the festival.  “The crowd’s spontaneous celebration honored Jesus as they spread their coats on the road ahead of Jesus and cut

PALM BRANCHES

PALM BRANCHES

branches from the trees.  Some were spread along Jesus path; others were probably waved in the air.  The branches were from palm, olive and fig trees, and they were used to welcome a national liberator and symbolized victory.

Palm branches are a token of rest and peace after sorrow (Revelation 7:9).  The word “Hosanna” means “Save now, we pray you.”  Putting these thoughts together, it would seem as if the people were acknowledging Jesus to be the One sent from God to save them from Roman cruelty and to give them rest and peace after the sorrow of their long years of Gentile oppression.

The disciples did not realize that what was happening was in exact fulfillment of Zechariah’s prophecy, that Jesus was actually entering Jerusalem as the rightful King of Israel.  But after the Lord had gone back to heaven to be glorified at the right hand of the Father, it dawned on the disciples that these events were in fulfillment of the Scriptures.

We are the stewards of what God placed in our hands.  He gave us his only begotten son as a symbol of love, peace and justice.  In CELEBRATING this PALM SUNDAY, let us remember that we all are our brothers’ keeper, therefore, when we look upon the life and death and resurrection of Jesus, he showed us in so many wonderful ways how we too should live out our lives filled with love, peace and justice and never allow our FAITH to ever wavier on the fact “we are our brothers’ keeper.”  Now let us go out and serve as we have been called to do.

Saturday Morning Devotional Prayer and Praise (High Praises)

I WILL LIFT THE LORD UP IN HIGH PRAISES

Good morning children of God, and indeed what a great morning this really is. For the Lord our God has awaken us and provided us with a brand-new opportunity to lift him up in high praises. For this reason, we ought to lift up holy hands where ever we are and just begin to praise his holy name. For he is worthy to be praised and today’s Devotional Service is designed to concentrate our minds on praising the Lord, after a very long week of being in the secular world.  Now join with me and let us together focus our attention away from the world and upon God and the things of Heaven.

OUR SCRIPTURE READING IS PSALM 136 by Pastor Davis

Today my brothers and sisters, we are a blessed people. We are a free people we can lift up the name of Jesus, praise and worship him without fear of persecution, and when we do not take advantage of this blessed opportunity and shower him with praising and serving him in his holiness, we are cursing our blessing and we are not deserving of the Lords grace that he has showered upon us. Let us at this very moment, not cut off our blessing, but lift up the Lord our God in high praises and Thanksgiving.

LET US PRAY:

Saturday Morning Devotional Service of Prayer and Praise (Lifting up Holy Hands)

Now let us go before the Lord in Prayer lifting up Holy Hands…

Since prayer is at the bottom of all this, what I want mostly is for men to pray—not shaking angry fists at enemies but raising holy hands to God. And I want women to get in there with the men in humility before God, not primping before a mirror or chasing the latest fashions but doing something beautiful for God and becoming beautiful doing it.  (1 Timothy 2:8-10 MSG)

TIME FOR ALTER CALL

So that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,  and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (Philippians 2:10-11 ESV)

HOW TO RECEIVE THE GIFT OF ETERNAL LIFE

What must I do to be saved? This question was first asked by a jailer at Ephesus, who witnessed an earthquake that freed Paul and Silas. Paul and Silas were the Church’s first official evangelists, who had been falsely arrested and beaten and left in his charge. The earthquake came as the climax to a midnight prison cell prayer and praise meeting and it spurred the jailer to consider the condition of his soul.  What must I do to be saved, you asked?  If you truly want to be saved, listen to what the Lord says you must do, “you should first go to God in prayer.  When praying to Him you should tell Him you are sorry for the sinful things that you have done against Him and how you want to do the right thing from now on (1 John 1:9Acts 20:21). Next you should ask Him to forgive your sins through His death payment on the cross (Colossians 2:10-14). Last, make a commitment to God that you will wholly follow His commandments and believe on Him and His Word, with the help of His Holy Spirit (John 14:15).  Congratulations, you are SAVED (John 8:32)! You have become a new person, and you will be able to live a life that is pleasing to God (2 Corinthians 5:14-17 ). Now, God will come into your heart and live with you (Revelation 3:20). This is so you can be close to Him, receive His power, and understand His Word (1 John 3:16Acts1:8John14:26).

DO YOU KNOW WHERE YOU WILL SPEND ETERNITY?

Thank you for your prayers and service to the Kingdom of God. Please return in a few hours as we will continue with our Sunday Prayer, Praise and Worship Service.  May God bless you abundantly as you go out into the world this day and serve.

This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. (Joshua 1:8 ESV)

Saturday Morning Devotional Prayer and Praise Service (Praying for Spiritual Empowerment)

PRAYING FOR SPIRITUAL EMPOWERMENT

FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH OF WILMINGTON, N.C. ESTABLISHED 1808 (PHOTO BY PASTOR DAVIS)

FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH OF WILMINGTON, N.C. ESTABLISHED 1808 (PHOTO BY PASTOR DAVIS)

Today my brothers and sisters, I want to encourage you to pray for one another, you pray for me and I pray for you. We have a greater responsibility in the work we do then we can begin to imagine. When the Lord, Our God called us into this ministry work, he carefully chose each one of his servants, he prepared them for the many challenges that they would face along the way. He equipped each one of his servants with the necessary tools to make the journey a smooth one. He blessed each servant with a praying spirit, and he told us that we must pray daily for SPIRITUAL EMPOWERMENT.

Now my Dear Brothers and Sisters as we enter into our prayers for one another, let us all understand this one fact; during the course of our lives, we all have had someone to pray for us. Prayer is the key that unlocks the door to our blessings, and when we learn that our purpose in life is to serve others, and we can truly be effective as a servant by praying in the Spirit for our fellowman, we are then moved to pray without ceasing.

Paul’s prayer for SPIRITUAL EMPOWERMENT for the Ephesians was that they be united by the Spirit, indwelt by Christ, and filled with all the fullness of God’s love. We know that God made the Holy Spirit available to all who believed in Jesus Christ as Savior. The Spirit provides power for our new lives.

The Prayer that Paul prayed for SPIRITUAL EMPOWERMENT was a beautiful and powerful prayer. Now listen to Paul words as he spoke them in Ephesians 3:14-21:

For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height.

To know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God, Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

We find that in this text’s prayer, Paul asked that the Holy Spirit deepen His work in their lives in three ways:
1. That Christ would dwell–more literally, “be at home” in their hearts by faith, that is, that He would move from being an acquaintance to being the center of their church family;
2. That they would grasp God’s love at a spiritual level, beyond intellectual or theological knowledge.
3. That they would be filled with God’s fullness, that is, that the Holy Spirit would reveal the things of Christ (John 16) more fully, achieving God’s fuller work in each life unhindered, unquenched, ungrieved.

My Brothers and Sisters, let not your hearts be troubled, but pray always for everyone and for everything. God is a prayer answering God and He is waiting on you to call him up on His Hot Line, and the only way you can do that is through your prayers. Therefore, if you truly want to be EMPOWERED to do the Lord’s will, learn to PRAY FOR SPIRITUAL EMPOWERMENT!

Good Morning, Good Morning, Good Morning, and a Merry, Merry Christmas to each one of you where ever you may reside in the Universe.  We come together on this great day to lift up the name Jesus, praise His Holy name, sings songs of joy, thank God for His mighty works in sending forth a Savior into the World.  So on this Christmas Sunday, let us all count our Blessings, because we are truly blessed, whether we realize it or not.

LET US PRAY FOR WORLD PEACE:

Eternal God, our Heavenly, In the name of Jesus, I bow my head in your present this day surrendering all things into your hands, lifting you up in praises, songs and thanksgiving, seeking peace in my life and  the lives of all your CHILDREN OF THE WORLD.  This has been another year of wars and destruction in the lives of many people.  Nations fighting against nations, families and friends fighting against each other, many people suffering needless because the hearts and minds are hot and angry, no one wants to yield nor forgive.  Therefore, Heavenly Father as we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior, we seek a divine supernatural occurrence in the Universe that will soften, enlighten and inspire those who are filled with angry, hate and a unforgiving heart to brought under your powers and taught how to live in peace, share love, joy and prosperity with each other.  So I ask from the depth of my soul, let there be peace on Earth this Christmas Season and let it begin with me.  In Jesus name, AMEN!

OUR SONG OF PRAISE IS FROM OUR MUSICAL VIDEO SILENT NIGHT:

Mary is the type of woman who puts her faith into action.  She not only says :Lord your will be done, but she also hurries to see God at work in the life of her relative Elizabeth.  The journey to Judea that Mary took was not a simple drive to the next town.  It was a difficult journey that would have taken at least three days at that time.  Mary did not let that stop her from going to Elizabeth rejoicing with her, and praising the Lord for fulfilling His promises.  Click on this short video clip and let’s watch together.

OUR MESSAGE FOR THIS DAY IS TITLE:

CHRISTMAS IS A TIME FOR SHARING AND CARING, now click on this video clip and be inspired by the word of God.
