LIVE A LIFE OF GODLINESS
LOVE CONQUERS ALL (Photo by Pastor Davis)
How do you do what God has called you to do, even when you do not know how to do it? Or let’s say you do know how, and you simply do not want to. The power of almighty God is the only answer.
We can’t settle for a life that falls short of Him, no matter how close we come or how far everybody else is behind us. The more I know Him, the more I know how much He loves me. I cannot know His love without experiencing His forgiveness. He forgave me before I ever asked Him. Imagine that.
If I told you that tomorrow someone would break into your house and violate you and all you stood for, could you forgive him today? When he got to your house and hurt you as planned, would you have love for him? This is the model of Jesus Christ.
With that model comes a desire to please Him, which becomes progressively more possible as I subtract my worldly attitudes and add spiritual ones. Then, once I determine, yes, I will forgive that person as an act of my will, God says, “You don’t have enough forgiveness in you to forgive him or her. So, here, take some of Mine.” And He energizes me with His power and forgiveness, and I can show that to the other person. That is godliness. God has set the standard and then commits Himself to giving us the power to meet it. Godliness is not perfection. It is continually striving with His power.
I want so much to be a godly father. I don’t always know what that looks like. So, I trust the promises of God, knowing He will give me a father’s heart. I trust that if my children say nothing else about me, they would say, “He was a godly father.”
I want most of all to be a godly pastor. I don’t always know what that looks like. So, I trust the promises of God to never leave me, nor forsake me. I have everything I need to be a godly father, and pastor. You have everything you need to be all that God wants you to be. You are fully equipped to live a life of godliness.
