PROVERBS GUIDE FOR WISE PARENTING:
WRITTEN BY SHIRLEY RHODES:
Traditional parenting seems to be conforming toward more flexible ways of parenting. Today’s discipline discourages spanking and stress using some form of reverse psychology, such as the points system. It is a fact that children are going through a growth process at different stages as they grow and develop; therefore, defiance and control becomes tools used to get their way much of the time. The question is, “Are we successful at child rearing or has the process become one of rearing more focused independent children?” The future generation will be leaders, teachers, and so much more; will they be effectively equipped to step into their designed purpose for life?
Proverbs Wisdom teaching is not outdated but should be a part of the process in healthy growth and development. For the scripture reminds you this way; God has no use for the prayers of the people who won’t listen to him (Proverbs 28: 9; MGS).
Discipline your children while you still have the chance; indulging them destroys them (Proverb 19:18; MGS)
Fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge… (Proverb 1: 7; NKJV)
Children are a heritage from the Lord… (Psalm 127: 3)
Children who lash out against their parents are an embarrassment and disgrace (19:26)
Point your children in the right direction—when they’re old they won’t be lost (22:6)
Young people are prone to foolishness and fads; the cure comes through tough-minded discipline (22:15)
Don’t be afraid to correct your young ones, a spanking, in fact might save them from something worse than death (23:13-14)
As parents, children are entrusted to your care for a while in which molding and shaping their lives becomes your responsibility. It is wise to examine the scripture for guidance while applying your daily teachings and instructions in the process.
