You’ve all been to the stadium and seen the athlete’s race. Everyone runs; one wins. Run to win. All good athletes train hard. They do it for a gold medal that tarnishes and fades. You’re after one that’s gold eternally. (1 Corinthians 9:24-25 MSG)London 2012 Olympic gold medal

Some of you are losing battles you should be winning because you are not in shape. In order to win your gold metal of eternity you must get in shape. I don’t mean just getting in physical shape; you have to learn to train like a real champion. That means you must train the entire person, the physical body, mind and soul.

Know that Proper spiritual nourishment promotes spiritual growth. In order for you to stand before the throne of grace teach and or preach the truth of the gospel, requires constant training in prayer and meditation on the message of faith, which is the gospel message, and true teaching. A teacher of the gospel either must spend much time and energy in training him or herself for spiritual fitness. Training emphasizes the point that spiritual development does not happen by chance. An athlete is focus and committed, constantly training, refusing to let up, always striving. Believers must have the same focus and commitment, refusing to be sidetracked by wrong teaching.

Physical exercise, while benefiting the body, has no eternal benefits. Being in good physical shape positively affects your health and perhaps your mental outlook; yet spiritual exercise affects everything. It benefits it’s practitioner in both this life and the next. The key issue is how we use our time. Some people spend 10 to 15 hours a week in physical activity, but spend little time in Bible study, prayer and service. Believers who do spiritual exercise really do have the best of both worlds, they receive immediate and eternal benefits, and they benefit others as they instruct, and model the Christian life.

It is time to get in shape. Sign up for a heavenly gym membership. There is open enrollment. And what a deal! Jesus paid the price in full at Calvary. But don’t be satisfied with just signing
up. Go on and work out. Stick with the program. You will soon see the results you have been looking for. Remember, winners never quit and quitters never win. Now is the time to get up off that couch, stop being called a couch potato and begin to fight to win. Learn to walk by the Spirit and be counted among the stars.
But I say walk and live [habitually] in the [Holy] Spirit [responsive to and controlled and guided by the Spirit]; then you will certainly not gratify the cravings and desires of the flesh (of human nature without God). (Galatians 5:16 AMP)

BEAT THE DEVIL AT HIS OWN GAME, and begin to live in the newness of this life been renewed by the Holy Spirit as He lifts you to heights unknown and unthinkable by you as you train for your gold metal. I don’t know about you, but I’m running hard for the finish line. I’m giving it everything I’ve got. No sloppy living for me! I’m staying alert and in top condition. I’m not going to get caught napping, telling everyone else all about it and then missing out myself. (1 Corinthians 9:27 MSG) What better time than now to begin TRAINING FOR YOUR GOLD MEDAL OF ETERNITY.” “DO IT NOW!”
