My brothers and sisters, today marks a new beginning for all of us. For truly it is the first day of the rest of our lives. How we live it will determine the outcome of our eternity. Therefore, we encourage you to pause your thoughts of all worldly things, and allow your mind to become a “REFLECTIONS UPON THE GOODNESS AND MERCIES OF GOD!”

. The Lord has truly blessed us to be a part of this glorious moment. The Scriptures tells us this very important fact, it says, “For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.” (Galatians 5:1 ESV)

Now let us understand that we have freedom from slavery to our sinful desires and to the Jewish law. But the freedom that we now have came at a great price. In order for us to enjoy ultimate freedom, someone had to set us free, and that someone was Christ Jesus. (John 8:32, 36)  Because Christ has really set us free, we should stay free. Christ’s has set us free from legalistic formulas, from God’s judgment upon sin, from all man-made rules, and from the subjective experiences of fear and guilt. We are to live it out, practice it, and rejoice in it! To turn back to the law and try to earn what Christ has already given marks his sacrifice.

Therefore my brothers and sisters, as we prepare our hearts and minds for our Sunday Prayer Praise and Worship Service, let us reflect deeply upon the price that Jesus Christ paid for the freedom that we now are able to enjoy to worship and serve him in our sanctuaries as free people.  Never again should any of God’s children have a desire to go back into slavery when God has freed you from anything.

Now let us begin this day to lift him up in praise and worship thanking him for all the goodness that he has done in our lives and the lives of our family and friends. For on this day we are surely a blessed people.  As we pray for you on the first day of the rest of your life, use it as a day of, “REFLECTIONS UPON THE GOODNESS AND MERCIES OF GOD!”
