HOW DO YOU LIVE AN UNSELFISH LIFE?
As believers we are all called to live our lives as Christ would have us to do so. Learning to have a spirit of humility, leaving our selfish ambition and conceit behind, while selfish ambition and conceit can ruin unity, genuine humility can build it. Being humble involves having a true perspective about ourselves in relation to God, which in turn gives us a correct perspective on our relationships with others. Being humble does not mean that we should put ourselves down. Instead humility is a healthy respect for who God is, and then a healthy respect for ourselves because of what God did on our behalf. Thinking of others as better than ourselves means that we are aware of our own failings and are thus willing to accept failings in others without looking down on them. Therefore, the question still remains, “HOW DO YOU LIVE AN UNSELFISH LIFE?”
James 5:16 ESV Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.Listen to what Paul tells us in Philippians, he says, “Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. (Philippians 2:4 ESV). As we read this, let us understand that we as believers should not be completely absorbed in his or her own affairs, but should also be interested in others, nothing their good points and qualities. A sure cure for selfish ambition is appreciative recognition of others’ good qualities and their walk with the Lord. It is easy to get caught up in competition, aggressive acquiring and vying for our own rights and needs. But compared to knowing Christ, those interests seem shallow. We need Christ’s attitude of self-sacrifice to look beyond ourselves to the needs of others. Now read and listen to how the scriptures teach us HOW TO LIVE AN UNSELFISH LIFE! Matthew 5:6 ESV “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
James 5:15 ESV And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.
James 4:10 ESV Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.
James 4:8 ESV Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
James 4:7 ESV Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
James 4:3 ESV You asks and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions.
James 4:1 ESV What causes quarrels and what causes fights among you? Is it not this that your passions are at war within you?
Romans 12:10 ESV Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor.
John 13:34 ESV A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.
1 John 4:10 ESV In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
1 John 2:1-5 ESV My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world. And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments. Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him, but whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in him: …and by obeying the word of God we can truly learn HOW TO LIVE AN UNSELFISH LIFE.
