TRAGEDY IN CONNECTICUT HAS RENEWED OUR SPIRITS AT CHRISTMAS
LIFE’S CIRCUMSTANCES HAS CONNECTED US THROUGH CHANCE AND CHOICE
Jesus is the reason for the season, and as we approach the day of great joy and celebration our hearts have been filled with sorry, grief and disbelief. But we know that this too will past, as we lift up our heads, hold onto God’s unchanging hands, we can truly say without a doubt, which is, this too will past. Because we are truly leaning and depending on God to bring us through, it is the choice that we make.
The tragedy that took place in Newtown, Connecticut with a deranged gunman forcing his way into an elementary school than shooting and killing innocent children and teachers has done more to connect us together as a country and against gun violence than anything I can remember in my life time. It all was done through chance and by choice, the choice by a deranged gunman to do harm to the innocent.
God gave us from the beginning of time the opportunity to make choices in our life’s journey. He did not
promise us that the choices we make would always be the correct ones; nevertheless, it is we ourselves who will make the choices that will guide our life journey. Therefore, when it comes to guns and the gun culture that is ripping our lives and the lives of our children apart, we now have to make a choice concerning guns and the violence that they are heaping upon society.
The choices we make will determine how we live out the rest of our lives here on this earth. The devil has already made his choice, and the bible tells us in John 10:10 that the choice he made was to steal kill and destroys. What he did in Newtown, Connecticut is clear evidence of just how well he makes his choices know to us. Now we must make our choice know to him. Will we take a stand against gun violence in all areas of society?
Human nature is an important part of something special created by God himself. Our “life’s connection through circumstances, chances and choice” challenges each of us at some point in this earthly existence to take chances and make a choice. Our choices may not always be the right one, or the wrong one, but the fact that circumstances cause us to take a chance and make the choice puts us into the flow of life where God can guide us into the path of righteousness.
Did it ever occur to you, that the problems that are challenging our very existence, may very well be one called self-pride, or lack of will to surrender right where you are, in the very moment?
With-out knowledge or sense of direction, strong willed without guidance of the Holy Spirit the battles we struggle with may actually be a part of the process (or calling) God has purposed for our lives. Our “life’s connection through circumstances, chances and choice are all part of a plan to consider as to whom we choose to follow in order to look to for guidance and direction.
As we find our place in life we often fail to realize or see far enough ahead to know that there is a greater force watching and waiting; he knows our actions and why we do and say the things we do, nothing is hidden to the invisible eye; he watches and cares for our very souls.
Therefore, let us understand that God is watching and waiting for each of us to do what’s right and pleasing in His sight. These little children lives that were taken in Newtown, Connecticut must not be in vain. God has a divine plan for all of our lives, and he waits for each one of us to make a choice as to how we are going to live our lives according to His divine plan.
When confronted with life’s circumstances, choices and chance, work at developing the art of gratitude and thanksgiving in all things. Embrace life with vigor and a heart filled with love and joy. Know that this Christmas may be our last, but it is the one that we are going to make last for all eternity. Jesus is the reason for the season.
