The people on the east coast of the United States of America are becoming anxious. Preparations are underway to move out from the eye of the storm. Hurricane Irene has set her sights on this area of the country packing winds speeds of over 100 miles an hour and cloud beds filled with tons and tons of water that will leave no area in its path lacking for moisture. Just a few days ago a very powerful earth quake shook the conscious of everyone in this same area, giving them a wakeup call to prepare for the danger that will follow close behind.
My son is in the navy and station in Norfolk, Va. Two nights ago, he was told to report for duty around midnight, and at this time all the ships docked in the navy port there was moved out to sea for safety. His family boarded up their home and left town as well as many other families. Everyone is expecting the worst, but I say to all of you today, prepare for the storm, and be encouraged. Know that God is in control of all the events of nature, and there is nothing we can do to stop Mother Nature from expressing her desires. What is taking place this week is nothing more than Mother Nature expressing herself in her own way, letting us know that the time for us to prepare ourselves for the kingdom to come is now. The earth quake the other day and now Hurricane Irene is nothing more than our wake up call. It reminds me of God sending John ahead of Jesus to prepare us for the coming of the Messiah. Our thoughts must move from the fears of what is about to take place with Hurricane Irene to how we can begin to prepare our lives in a way to live a righteous life for God and help our brothers and sisters to do the same.
Jesus warned us of such time as this would come. Here is what he told us, he said, “Knowing the correct password—saying ‘Master, Master,’ for instance— isn’t going to get you anywhere with me. What is required is serious obedience—doing what my Father wills. I can see it now—at the Final Judgment thousands strutting up to me and saying, ‘Master, we preached the Message, we bashed the demons, our God-sponsored projects had everyone talking.’ And do you know what I am going to say? ‘You missed the boat. All you did was use me to make yourselves important. You don’t impress me one bit. You’re out of here.’
These words I speak to you are not incidental additions to your life, homeowner improvements to your standard of living. They are foundational words, words to build a life on. If you work these words into your life, you are like a smart carpenter who built his house on solid rock. Rain poured down, the river flooded, a tornado hit—but nothing moved that house. It was fixed to the rock.
But if you just use my words in Bible studies and don’t work them into your life, you are like a stupid carpenter who built his house on the sandy beach. When a storm rolled in and the waves came up, it collapsed like a house of cards.” (Matthew 7:21-27 MSG)
Now let us understand the truth of this gospel teaching, Jesus true followers not only hear his words, but act on them, allowing his message to make a difference in their lives. In this teaching, Jesus explained that a true follower, by acting on his words, is like a person who builds a house on solid rock. The one who builds on solid rock is a hearing, responding disciple, not a phony superficial one. Practicing obedience builds on the solid foundation of Jesus words to weather the storms of life; through rain, floodwaters, and winds their foundations on solid rock will be unaffected.
This of course is in total contrast to the wise person; the foolish person hears Jesus teaching and ignores it. While both people build houses, and while those houses may even look identical, only one house will stand the test. Only the person who hears and does God’s word will receive God’s reward. The house built on sand will collapse. When the storms came, the person turned away, life crumbled, and the end was a mighty crash, final, final judgment, destruction and separation from God. As character is revealed by fruit, so faith is revealed by storms. The wise person, seeking to act upon God’s word, builds to withstand anything. It will be the foundation, not the house that will determine what happens on the Day of Judgment.
What type of foundation are you building? Preparation to face devastation in the eye of Hurricane Irene is not enough to keep you from being destroyed in this storm. However, let me remind you, that is never too late. Be encouraged, and know that God is giving you time to get it right. The earth quake and Hurricane Irene is only a wakeup call. The moment of truth is stirring you in the face at this very moment. How you answer the call of truth will be determined by what you do at this moment as you prepare to face the storm that is slowing coming upon you.
Now here is your latest weather report on how hurricane Irene is proceeding towards you. Take notice and get ready. Because the National weather reports says, “Hurricane Irene has weakened somewhat over the Atlantic as it roars toward the U.S. East Coast, but it could intensify again before slamming into North Carolina, and federal officials Friday extended watches and warnings as far north as Martha’s Vineyard, Mass.”
As of 5 a.m. Eastern time, Irene was 420 miles from Cape Hatteras, N.C., with sustained winds of 110 mph, making it a Category 2 hurricane, according to a National Hurricane Center bulletin issued early today.
The storm will lumber north today at 14 mph, well off the Florida coast, then arrive in North Carolina Saturday as a Category 2 or Category 3 hurricane. From there, it is expected to head toward the Chesapeake Bay and Pennsylvania’s Delmarva Coast, according to AccuWeather.com. By Sunday it could pass within 30 miles of New York City, still at Category 2 strength.
BE ENCOURAGED IN THE EYE OF THE STORM. God has your back, and he will never leave you are forsake you, nor will he put on you more than you can bear. This storm is temporary, but it can be brutal and very difficult to overcome if your spiritual mind has not been properly prepared.
Today, I minister to you from a position of peace, power, purpose and prosperity. Be obedient to God and stay in the flow. I remain your brother in Christ, Pastor Davis/Master Teacher.
