ENJOYING OUR BLESSINGS AS A CHOSEN ONE BY GOD (1 Peter 1:1-12)
In lesson seven, we concluded with the words on God initiating our calling based on His total wisdom, and although all believers have been called, and chosen by God, we must always respond and choose to follow Him. Today we will build on the importance of enjoying our Blessings as a chosen one, and how we must live our lives daily based on God purpose for our lives from the beginning.
In (John 8:32), the bible tells us to know the truth and the truth will set us free. In order for us to know the truth, we must study God’s word and be obedient to His commands. Every one of us as believers are accountable to God for what we have done with Christ and for how we have lived our lives. Thus, we must leave judgment of others to Him and Him alone. This means not hating or even resenting those who persecute us. Instead, we should realize that we will be held responsible for how we live each day. This truth should motivate us to obey God and do what is right.
Now let us understand that when we speak of God’s “choosing” believers in this lesson, down through many generations and even today, this has generated fierce doctrinal differences among Christians, most of these differences come from theological and philosophical points of view about what the Bible means. God alone originates and accomplishes our salvation because of his grace. We do nothing to earn it. Being “chosen” does not remove the necessity for people to choose to follow him. The fact that God knows all events and decisions beforehand, even ordains them beforehand, does not mean that he forces the actions of his creatures, leaving them no choice. God took the initiative and chose people before they had done anything to deserve it. He had intimate knowledge of these future believers; he knew who would believe, and he knew them personally. These chosen ones were known by God the Father as a father knows his children, except that God knew about them from eternity past. God is not trapped in time, what he knows is from eternity past into eternity future.
God makes his choice effective by the presence of the Holy Spirit in those who believe, resulting in obedience. Only the Spirit can draw people to a saving relationship with God. The Spirit comes to the chosen people to make them holy; meaning that God sees his children as holy because they have been cleaned by his Son’s shed blood. But believers also are becoming holy as they learn to live for God. This is called “sanctification” the process of Christian growth through which the Holy Spirit makes us like Christ. The obvious result is that the believers obeyed. The constant cleansing from sin available to us because of Christ’s sacrifice enables us to obey God faith fully.
God’s special favor refers to his grace, given to under deserving people. Peace refers to the peace that Christ made between sinners and God through his Son’s death on the cross. Therefore, let us rejoice in our knowledge that we are truly chosen by God to serve Him and be obedient to His word. What a privilege, and joy to know that as a chosen believer, I can do all things through God who strengthens me. He gives me the power to conduct my own world affairs, leads me in the path of righteousness, walks with me daily and when I stumble he picks me up, whispers in my ear words that encourage and motivate me to never give up, and never give in. Although, many storms may rise in my life, but because I am chosen by Him, ordained by Him, there is nothing that I cannot accomplish. I am truly a chosen child of the King, and I can stand on any mountaintop and shout to the world with absolute joy that in my life, nothing is impossible. Peace, love, joy and prosperity be with each one of you this day my brothers and sisters.
Now, can you say aloud wherever you are to whom you may be near these words, “I AM BLESSED.”
